Smoke Alarm Replacement & Repair in Maple Ridge and the Lower Mainland
Chirping that won't quit, an alarm past its 10-year date, or a hardwired unit that's gone dead: I replace and repair residential smoke and carbon monoxide alarms across Maple Ridge, Pitt Meadows, the Tri-Cities and the Lower Mainland. $99.99 flat service fee per visit, premium 10-year Kidde and BRK / First Alert alarms, same-day or next-day.
Smoke Detector Replacement
Smoke alarms are good for 10 years from the date printed on the back, not the day they went up. Past that date the sensor can't be trusted, even if the test button still beeps. Our guide on how long smoke alarms last shows how to check yours.
On a replacement visit I:
- Read the label on every alarm in the home, so you know exactly what's due.
- Swap the expired units for 10-year Kidde or BRK / First Alert alarms, photoelectric as preferred in BC.
- Match your existing plug and brand on hardwired systems, so the interconnect keeps working.
- Test every alarm, and the interconnect, before I leave.
- Take the old alarms away and leave you a written record of every alarm.
Smoke and Fire Alarm Repair
In a house, the "fire alarm" is the smoke alarm on your ceiling. When one is acting up, it's usually one of these:
- Chirping every 30–60 seconds: a low battery, or an alarm at the end of its life.
- Chirping after a new battery: end of life, a battery drawer that isn't seating, or a hardwired unit that has lost power.
- False alarms from cooking or steam: an aging sensor, dust inside it, or an older ionization alarm in the wrong spot.
- Every alarm sounds at once: normal on an interconnected system. The trick is finding the one that started it.
- A hardwired alarm with no green light: no power reaching it, or the unit itself has failed.
If the alarm is in date, I fix the cause. If it's expired or failed, replacing it is the repair. More on the sounds in why is my smoke alarm beeping, or see beeping smoke alarm repair.
Hardwired Smoke Alarm Replacement
Most Lower Mainland homes built or renovated in the last few decades have hardwired, interconnected alarms. When one goes off, they all go off. That only works if every alarm on the interconnect is compatible, so:
- If one alarm is due and the rest are in date, I match the brand already in your home.
- If you'd rather switch brands, I replace every alarm on that interconnect.
- Either way, I test the interconnect before I leave.

Carbon Monoxide Detector Replacement
CO alarms wear out too, usually somewhere between 5 and 10 years depending on the brand, so check the label. If you have gas heat, a gas range, a fireplace or an attached garage, a smoke/CO combo in the hallway outside the bedrooms covers both. See CO alarm installation in BC.
