Already Bought Your Smoke Alarms? I'll Install Them

If you've already bought your smoke or CO alarms, I'll install them: the first 2 are included in the $99.99 service fee, then it's $30 per alarm, with no hardware charge. They need to be new, in-date and CSA/ULC-listed for Canada, and our 30-day warranty covers the workmanship.

How much does it cost to install alarms I bought?

The $99.99 service fee includes installing your first 2 alarms. Every alarm after that is $30. There's no hardware charge, because you've already paid for the hardware.

Evenings and weekends cost the same. We book from 10am to 8pm every day, same-day or next-day when available.

What do I get for the $99.99 service fee?

The $99.99 service fee is charged once per visit, not per alarm. What you get:

• Installation of your first 2 alarms, with no hardware charge.
• I come to you. Travel is included anywhere in our Lower Mainland service area. There's no call-out charge.
• Labour to take down the old alarms and put up the new ones.
• Every alarm tested before I leave. On hardwired systems I test the interconnect too.
• A written record for every alarm: location, type, manufacture date and test result.
• Old units taken away, and a 30-day workmanship warranty.
• Same price 10am to 8pm, every day. No evening or weekend surcharge.

Can I mix my alarms with yours?

Yes. If you bought some and need a couple more, I bring the rest. It's still one $99.99 service fee. Your alarms follow the pricing above, and ours are charged at their installed price.

Example: 3 of your alarms plus 2 Kidde combos is $99.99 + 1 × $30 + 2 × $119.99 = $369.97. The quote builder does the same math, and the full price list has every price.

Which alarms will you install?

• New. Unused and in the box. Not taken down from another home.
• In-date. Every alarm has a manufacture date. One that sat on a shelf for years has already used up part of its life.
• CSA/ULC-listed for Canada. Look for CAN/ULC-S531 (smoke) or CSA 6.19 (CO) on the box.

US-only units are not accepted. They can look identical to the Canadian version, so check the box before you buy. Not sure which sensor type to pick? Our photoelectric guide explains it.

What do you check before putting them up?

1. The manufacture date.
2. The Canadian listing marks.
3. The brand. Hardwired interconnected alarms should be one brand on the same interconnect, so a new hardwired alarm has to match your home's existing brand.
4. Type and location. A hardwired alarm replaces a hardwired alarm, and CO alarms go where they belong.
5. Condition: no damage, nothing missing.

Then I install them, test every alarm, test the interconnect, and write up the record. Keep the boxes and receipts handy. It makes the checks quick.

Which alarms will you turn down?

• Used, expired or damaged alarms.
• US-only units without a Canadian listing.
• A battery-only alarm to replace a hardwired one. That would remove the hardwired power and interconnect.
• A different brand from the rest of the interconnect, unless every alarm on it is being replaced.
• Anything tied to a building fire alarm system. I only do residential alarms.

What does the warranty cover?

Our 30-day warranty covers my workmanship: the mounting, the connections and the install. The alarm itself is covered by its manufacturer, so keep your receipt.
